In July and September 2008, Stanley Paris, PT, PhD, FAPTA, will raise funds for the Foundation of Physical Therapy's "Destination:
Research Excellence—Roadmap for the Future of Physical Therapy" campaign by attempting to enter the Guinness World Records as the oldest person to swim across the English Channel. Stanley, who is founder of the University of St. Augustine for Health
Sciences, the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapists, and the American Physical Therapy Association's
Orthopaedic section, successfully swam across the body of water twice in the 1980s.
"As a physical therapist," he says, "my knowledge and exper-tise gives me the tools to properly train and the skills to listen
to my body in order to prevent injury. The money we raise is creating possibilities for physical therapist researchers to
push the boundaries of science and ultimately improve the quality of life for the patients we serve every day." The Foundation's
goal is to raise $4 million by mid-June. To donate, pledge, or follow his journey, visit http://www.apta.org/parisswim/.
