The July 2009 issue of magazine features the winner of our . The winner, Ashley Servi of Racine, Wisconsin, claimed first prize with her very compelling account of landing her first
travel assignment. Since part of the story focused on a very long drive to get to her destination, I am sure she will enjoy
the new Garmin nüvi portable GPS navigator she will be receiving.
It is always a pleasure to read the travel stories sent to us. But the truth is, we don't get enough of them. I think many
of you just might be underestimating the value of your on-the-road experiences and your ability to write about them.
I would like to challenge all of you to not just when it's time for our annual writing contest, but to send us stories year-round. We are especially fond of unique adventures,
strange places, outrageous people, and enlightening experiences. Don't be shy. Let us hear about that time in Atlanta when
you stayed in a haunted bed and breakfast; or the time you got pulled over by the police in North Dakota and talked your way
out of a ticket because you were a nurse; or how you saved some guy's life in a restaurant in California after he started
choking on a piece of bread.
If you feel like you aren't the best writer, we'd love to interview you for our or our page. Here are some stories I would like to publish in the future:
- Have you ever met someone while on assignment and ended up getting married to him or her? We want to write an article about
you.
- Have you ever gone on an assignment and discovered a love for a new hobby or activity that you never would have considered
before? We want to write a story about you.
- Have you ever gone on assignment and discovered a lost relative or explored your family tree? We want to interview you about
it.
Being a travel professional isn't just an occupation, it's a lifestyle with unique benefits. Let's so we can share your stories with the world.
