CHG Healthcare Services recognized for putting employees first

What's better than being named to Fortune's "Best 100 Companies to Work For" in 2011? Being named to the list for two years running.

In the annual feature, CHG Healthcare Services, a privately owned medical staffing firm, secured the No. 27 spot out of 311 participating companies. Perhaps more impressive is the fact that most of the company's score was based on employee comments pulled from a random sampling.

President and CEO Mike Weinholtz is fostering goodwill at CHG.
"One of the most gratifying things about being named to the Fortune list the last two years was that it happened during the two leanest years, from an economic standpoint, since the great depression," says CHG President and CEO Mike Weinholtz. "We continued to trust in our employees during the lean years. We not only didn't cut benefits, we added benefits, and that continued to build our culture of trust."

CHG did fall one spot this year, from the No. 26 position the magazine gave it in 2010.

Amy Lyman, director of corporate research and co-founder of California-based Great Place to Work Institute, which partners with Fortune on the annual project, says CHG's ability to create a high-trust work environment is something the list recognizes. "It is the quality of what they have done — the honesty with which leaders interact with people, the respect they show to them, the fairness of the practices within the organization," she says. "These are the kinds of things that set this organization, along with the others on the list, apart from everyone else."

The second largest healthcare staffing firm in the nation, CHG is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, and has offices in California, Connecticut, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, and Oklahoma. Founded in 1979, CHG generated $536 million in 2010, up from $527 million in 2009.
